FH2
Once again FH was amazing. This year we refined the designs developed for FH1. Of primary focus was packaging improvement of the powertrain via the design of a new chassis. The new chassis was also designed to pass the newer template requirements that would be added to the FH rules in 2012. Got to work with a great group of guys once again. This year we placed 4th out of nearly 30 universities. Following the official FH competition we headed over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a Green Tech Innovation Day event. We raced an autocross format event again 6 other team that we at the FH comp and placed 1st overall. It was really cool to get to stand up on the IMS podium to be recognized for our finish!
FH1
As total newbies to the Formula Hybrid and in general the SAE scene I would have never expected what we'd have been capable of. We ended up, as a first year team, achieving a 3rd place finish out of nearly 30 schools from around the world. What a damn good feeling that was. Though looking back I think we simply had our goals set right. Year after year, super green teams go in there thinking they'll change the world with some sort of fancy engineering, while forgetting about the basics. Our goal, for example, was to complete all of the dynamic events, as from simple investigation of previous years that would net us a respectable finish. By setting that goal the proper priorities stem, such as thorough team management, which is often grossly overlooked by most of these teams.
